Fashion through the ages project. 1930’s fashion.

A project from myself and Dayna!

This isn’t a copy of 1930’s fashion but inspired by. Our aim with this project is to do each decade over the last 100 years.

No doubt these will be posted a bit mixed up as we do them in our spare time. There very fun and something we’ve been working on for a while!
This was our 1930’s inspired shoot.

This was the 1st time I ever added grain to into a digital image. I wanted to give them a old film feeling, it felt unatural shooting at 100iso and then adding grain. The problem with digital cameras the pushing of the iso say 3200 wouldn’t work. One as it creates a noise rather than a grain, its a different feeling to it. but also to get that level of grain id have to alter the DOF and thats something I didn’t want to do.

As this was an inspired shoot we wanted to keep some modren aspects to the images as well. So we kept colour in some. This wouldn’t be the case in the 1930’s, any colour you would find in images then would of been done by hand.

Dayna has an amazing body and we wanted to create the curves of the Vargras girls, pointed toes and good calfs give women of the era there apeal in art works and fashion magazines.

My only know of telephones history is from call the midwife. so that being set in the late 50’s and only half the people having phones in the home would suggest to me that this wouldn’t of happened!
But we did love it for a photograph.

Again adding that grain into the image to give it that old school feeling.

History of film

35 mm film came out at the turn of the 1900’s but this would most like of been 120 mm film used back in the 1930’s, 35 mm film wasn’t popularly used until the 1960’s.

Cameras of the time shot from the waist, the image shown upside down in the view finder. In fact even today its advise to turn your art work upside down to look for mistakes!

This is a tiny snippet of history, I’ll blog this a little better in the next one.

We added a range of head shots and played with the natural window light coming into the room.

Please follow for more decades to come.
